Kathy Griffin Takes Herself Off the ‘D-List’ and Hits the Road

Do you feel like liposuctioning your brain at the thought of watching another season of Kathy Griffin’s “My Life on the D-List“? Well, she kinda does, too. That’s why the proverbial blunt-banged redhead is pulling the plug on her Bravo hit show to focus on a new challenge in her career: Disassociating herself from Kate Gosselin.

“It was a really tough decision because I think of the “D-List” as pretty much my baby for the last six seasons, and I also think it was really time to stop doing it,” Griffin tells People. “Reality is great, but I really didn’t set out to be a reality star. So now it’s time to spread my wings and show that I’m a little different than Kate Gosselin.”

“I’m not saying better,” she adds laughing, “but maybe separate myself from the pack a little bit.”

So what’s the 50-year-old comedian to do? Sign up to do four comedy specials, which will air quarterly this year—with Bravo, of course.

Kathy Griffin Makes It Through New Year’s Broadcast Without Cursing

“There is no better way to start off 2011 than giving Kathy Griffin an unprecedented four new stand-up comedy specials on Bravo in one year,” network VP Andy Cohen said in a recent statement. “Kathy’s quick-fire humor and ability to tap into pop culture make for must watch television.”

“I just cannot get enough or do enough stand-up,” Griffin says. “Audiences know when they come to see me live, they’re going to see new stuff. [And] as long as there’s a show called ‘My Strange Addiction‘ about a woman who only eats toilet paper…then I have to do stand up.”

Other victims of her routine will include: Oprah’s OWN Network and Paula Abdul’s ‘Live to Dance.’ (We’re hoping she’ll show some love to her BFF, Anderson Cooper, too.)

The pint-sized entertainer is up for a People’s Choice Award tonight on CBS (9/8c) and is also hoping to snag her first Grammy on February 13.
