AMC has officially renewed “Mad Men” for a fifth season, the network confirmed Friday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena. Although the announcement might seem obvious, AMC had reportedly been held up by contract negotiations.  Joel Stillerman, AMC’s senior vice president of original programming promised, “Mad Men is definitely coming back for Season 5, but don’t ask me when, because we’re not sure yet.”

That said, the network does have a plan for “The Killing,” which is set to debut Sunday, April 3 at 10/9c.   The dark thriller is based on the Danish series “Forbrydelsen,” and follows the investigation into the murder of a 17-year-old Seattle girl, Rosie Larsen. The series stars Mireille Enos (“Big Love”) as lead detective Sarah Linden, Billy Campbell (“Once and Again”) as City Council President Darren Richmond, and Michelle Forbes (“True Blood”) as Rosie’s mother, Mitch Larsen.

During a panel for the drama, Enos described her character as “a deeply intelligent, deeply private woman. She has uncanny intuition about this kind of work. This is what keeps her in it and what makes happiness difficult in her life.”
