Fox News health contributor Dr. Cynara Croomer has undergone successful surgery to remove her thyroid after a biopsy revealed cancer, according to TVNewser.
Croomer is herself a cancer surgeon, specializing in breast cancer at Staten Island University Hospital. She discovered a lump on her thyroid and tests revealed papillary carcinoma diagnosis.
“As soon as my doctor said the words every patient dreads, ‘it’s cancer,’ my husband and I sprang into action. I knew I’d need surgery to remove the thyroid, and because of where it’s located, it is a very delicate procedure,” Croomer said.
“If done incorrectly – the patient’s voice could be damaged. At least my operating hands aren’t in danger – but I could kiss my TV journalism career goodbye if that were to happen.”
Croomer recently gave birth to her daughter, Olivia. Croomer will need to undergo radiation treatment, but is expected to make a full recovery.
