When USA’s “White Collar” returns from hiatus on Jan. 18, the show’s dashing con-man Matthew Bomer and his FBI pursuer played by Tim DeKay promise a revealing flashback episode, more on the music box mystery, and a jaw-dropping cliffhanger.

“The questions about the [music box, stolen in the season finale] will be answered, some of them I think rather quickly and then others not until the last minute. I don’t think any of the audience will be dissatisfied. Do you?,” DeKay (Peter Burke) asked his co-star at a roundtable interview Thursday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.

“No, I don’t,” Bomer (Neal Caffrey) responded, adding of the upcoming storyline, “I was blown away by what Jeff [writer Jeff Eastin] had come up with. And it was also a great chance to get a lot of the mythology questions, a lot of closure… It was obviously well thought-out by Jeff.”

The two actors are also looking forward to a very special episode. “There’s a whole flashback episode,” says DeKay. Bomer says viewers will get a look at how Neal and Peter’s relationship formed and “hopefully answer a lot of questions and fill in a lot of blanks…especially with our relationship with Kate [Neal’s ex-girlfriend].”

As for the season’s end, it won’t go out without a bang. “There is a massive cliffhanger,” says Bomer. “Every time we get to a cliffhanger I think well Jeff will do something great, but it’s not going to be as good as what he did before and then he outdoes himself. I’m worried that by the end of next season Tim and I are going to be hanging off Teddy Roosevelt’s nose on Mount Rushmore for dear life.”
