Appearing on the HBO series “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Rachel Maddow reacted to Keith Olbermann’s sudden departure from MSNBC. Asked what happened, she said only it’s “between Keith and the company, it didn’t involve any of the rest of us.” She did acknowledge “it’s been a big day at MSNBC or at least it’s been a big 15 minutes.” Which is about as much thought as it deserves…And the latest on Olbermann – did he leave on his own or was he pushed? No one knows-yet. But a short time after bidding his viewers goodbye, Olbermann dined with others at the posh Gramercy Tavern in NYC, telling one well-wisher, “At least I had one nice meal since it happened…

American Idol” ratings fell on its second night to 23 million from its season 10 premiere of 26.1 viewers, but it still drove Fox to its biggest Thursday night ratings since 1995. NBC gave a go-ahead to David E. Kelley‘s remake of the 1976 “Wonder Woman,” whose only real legacy, let’s face it, is a great bicentennial-influenced posterConan O’Brien‘s production company is set to make a pilot for CBS called “Vince Uncensored,” from a script by former “Cheers” writer Phoef Sutton about a man inspired to live a “more honest” life…Reports that NBC is piloting the Steven Spielberg series idea “Smash” about the making of a Broadway musical brought back memories of the hilarious movie “Waiting for Guffman,” which you can watch here for free

Amid controversy that has advertisers bailing, MTV’s racy series “Skins” is previewing a lesbian kiss in its next episode. The real problem here – and it’s just one opinion – is the feeling viewers are being manipulated instead of served up insightful writing with an edge. Yes, its a non-sequitur, but wondering how “Dog WhispererCesar Milian might deal with these kids…Gay teens on television are the subject in the new Entertainment Weekly, whose cover features “Glee” couple Chris Colfer and Darren Criss. Colfer calls their duet (watch it here) of “Baby It’s Cold Outside” “by far the gayest thing that has ever been on TV, period”…
