Niecy Nash’s first wedding 20 years ago featured metal folding chairs and Styrofoam heart centerpieces. When she marries electrical engineer Jay Tucker this spring, it’s a safe bet the décor will be stepped up a notch, thanks to cable TV.
The Nash nuptials and planning will be featured in an upcoming TLC special, according to People.
“I am a woman who does not have the bride gene,” says Nash. “No bridezilla here! I haven’t been planning a wedding since I was three. I have to go to the experts to say, ‘What am I supposed to do here?’”
“Me and my mother watch ‘Say Yes to the Dress’ religiously. So I’m really looking forward to it,” Nash said.
Nash’s first marriage lasted 16 years and ended in 2007. She described the ceremony as “a fiasco,” including a wedding dress that was actually a quincenera gown.
“I said to Jay, ‘I would like to share this experience with them,’” Nash, 40, said. “I want them to know at the end of the day [that] love is possible a second – sometimes even a third – time around. You can get another chance.”
The couple became engaged last September and will wed in late May.
