Lori Loughlin is fighting back at reports that she was fired from the cast of “90210.” After three seasons playing mom to Annie (Shenae Grimes) and Dixon (Tristan Wilds) –- Lori, 46, says it is simply “the right time to move on” from TV’s most famous zip code.
“I think it is unfortunate that they would say that,” Loughlin tells xfinityTV. “The truth is, creatively, it would be more challenging for (my character) to move on. The kids are going off to college. So they are going to focus more on that. But I had a great time. It’s all good. I am not parting on bad terms.”
We caught up with the eternally young actress this week to get the inside scoop about her big send-off and what comes next.
Do they plan to kill you off?
I don’t think it is going to be anything dramatic. I have already gotten a phone call from Dawn Ostroff and she said, “Look, if you are not doing anything and you want to come back, we can work it out.” They want to kind of leave it open so I can do some episodes next year if my schedule allows.
Jennie Garth says she was happy to leave the show because it was “going in the wrong direction.”
You know what? I understood Jennie’s point. That was her baby in many ways. And all of a sudden she saw it being raised in a different way than she wanted it to be. She and the head writer definitely had their moments of butting heads. And she definitely wasn’t happy there. She came from a place of feeling like it was her show and protecting it and the new point of view was, “No, no. This is the same show in name only.” I didn’t even watch the original “90210” so I don’t know what their disagreements are over.
So what’s next? “Dancing with the Stars“?
Oh, no. Not me. I watch “DWTS,” but it is not for me.
Rumor has it Jodie Sweetin may be “Dancing”…
Jodie was a dancer when she was little. That makes total sense to me. In fact, if you look at old episodes of “Full House,” she was always dancing.
Could she out dance Bristol Palin?
Probably. Yeah, I am going to go with my girl Jodie.
What do you watch?
I watch “Glee” because my daughters like it. My husband and I like “Boardwalk Empire,” “Entourage.” “True Blood” is my favorite show. And I love “Modern Family.”
Do your girls watch “90210”?
My daughters are 11 and 12. Honestly, I don’t let them watch it. To me, there are some episodes of “Glee” that can be a little racy. But “90210” is even racier in a way. They are just a little too young.
Do you do much traveling?
I took a great trip to Israel. It was really so much fun. I got to take my mom. We went with this organization called America’s Voices to Israel. They treated us like royalty. The Israeli people are so nice and so welcoming.
Were you nervous to go to that part of the world?
No. Not even a little bit. I felt perfectly fine.
When were you there?
I got home a couple of days before everything happened in Egypt.
Did anybody recognize you?
Oh, yeah. In the lobby of the hotel, it was all kids and pictures … Everywhere on the street. The new “90210” is on in Israel. In fact, the teenage girls were coming up and asking me about all the young boys that are on “90210.” They were all, “Tell us about Matt Lantern and Tristan Wilds.”
