Now that Larry King has had time to reflect on his CNN successor, not to mention work on a proposed stand-up comedy routine, the broadcast legend has some thoughts on Piers Morgan: “He’s been oversold.”
“One of the problems they did was to oversell it,” King told a British radio show. “They said he was going to be dangerous, he was going to be water-cooler talk… he’s good — but he’s not that dangerous.”
King had publicly lobbied for pal Ryan Seacrest to take over once his time at CNN was over, but he admits, “I like him. I’ve met him a few times.”
Meanwhile, Morgan thinks he’s “fitting in pretty well” on CNN, although he would only give himself a “B+” in terms of his program. “The thing about this show is that it evolves all the time,” he recently told PopEater. “My main objective is to show people the range I’ve got.”
As for ratings, “Piers Morgan Tonight” hasn’t been faring too well, with viewership dropping from an initial 2 million to less than 500,000, according to Bloomberg. Such a dip caused CNN to hire a new booker for the show.
