Live TV has its perils and “The Today Show” was reminded of that Tuesday after the co-hosts had a brief scare on-air.

According to USA Today, police subdued a man who disrupted this morning’s broadcast from Rockefeller Plaza.

The unsettling scene occurred at approximately 8 a.m. when someone started screaming and “hurled himself over the barricade,” according to co-host Meredith Vieira, who was shooting a live segment outside in the Plaza with Al Roker and guest co-host Willie Geist (subbing in for Matt Lauer).

As the chaos erupted, the camera abruptly cut away — as Vieira could be heard gasping, “Oh, Jesus!” — then cut back to the studio where a “flustered” Ann Curry quickly took over and started reading the news, “while we find out what happened outside.”

Minutes later and safely back inside, Vieira exclaimed: “We’re certainly awake now, boy!” while Roker revealed a few details about what happened, saying the man jumped over the barriers and was shouting he was “God’s gift to music.” He also joked that Vieira and Geist ran away and left him in the dust.

Vieira said that police, who are regularly present in the crowded Plaza where “Today” fans gather, quickly intervened and apprehended the man. “We’re lucky we have great security here,” she added.

No one was hurt in the incident. It is unknown at this time if any charges were filed.
