TV weight-loss icon Ruby Gettinger revealed that she suffered a 60-pound setback in her ongoing battle to shed pounds.
Fortunately, though, she’s already lost half of the added weight, she told Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today Show” Thursday morning. Gettinger once weighed 716 pounds, but it wasn’t clear what she weighs now (though it seemed like a lot less than 700-plus pounds). She appeared on “Today” to promote the fourth-season premiere of her reality series “Ruby” this Sunday night on Style Network (8/7).

Her 60-pound weight-gain forms the basis for one of the storylines you’ll see in the upcoming season, according to Style Net. “As the season continues, beloved Ruby sinks into a depression as she now finds herself facing her greatest fear of all: The weight she worked so desperately to shed is creeping back,” according to a description provided by the cable channel.
“I hate talking about this because there’s such shame in that,” she said on “Today” about gaining the 60 pounds. “But what happened was, I started to get emotional.” And that’s when she returned to some of her unhealthy eating habits, she said.
The emotions were apparently triggered by a new effort on her part to recover memories of her childhood, which the Savannah native says was so traumatic that she has basically forgotten it. “That’s one of the reasons that I was 716 pounds in the first place,” she told Lauer. “And I don’t know if you know, but I don’t remember my childhood.”
However, despite the setback and the emotional rollercoaster she’s on, she vowed, “I’m just never gonna give up! I am determined to prove that this is possible!”
