Is ‘Off The Map’ Chemistry Hot Enough for Two Shows?

Off the Map” stars Martin Henderson and Rachelle LeFevre will definitely be working together next year. The catch is that it may not be on “Off the Map.” The actors, who play doctors who are on and off-again lovers, have landed starring roles in the NBC pilot “The Crossing” according to Deadline. “The Crossing” is a drama set just after the U.S. Civil war about a soldier named Jason (Henderson) who moves to a mysterious town, immediately attracting the interest of a widow named Anna (LeFevre.)

Does this mean that ABC is going to pull the plug on the freshman medical drama? The network is continuing to heavily promote the show which seemingly has all the makings of a hit: a gorgeous and talented cast, a beautiful setting, and is executive produced by “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes. Yet the series has fared poorly in the ratings, putting its future in jeopardy.

Officially, both actors have “The Crossing” as their “second position”, meaning that if “Off the Map” is renewed, they are contractually obligated to stay with the show. LeFevre has a history of booking new projects while under contract. She famously lost her role in the final “Twilight” films when she accepted a role in the Canadian film “Barney’s Version.” NBC could end up having to recast and reshoot two major roles in an expensive, ambitious project — though given the odds against a pilot going to series it’s far from a certainty that “The Crossing” will hit the airwaves next fall.

If they move from “Off the Map” to “The Crossing”, Henderson and LeFevre will join a small group of actors who have been paired romantically on multiple series. Bill Cosby and Phylicia Rashad played a married couple on both “The Cosby Show” and “Cosby,” while “Nikita” is currently reuniting Lynsey Fonseca and Thad Luckinbill, who worked together on “The Young & the Restless.”
