Rob Lowe replacing Charlie Sheen on “Two and a Half Men” was a cute idea while it lasted, but that’s all it will ever be.

Lowe, who plays the charming Chris Traeger on “Parks & Recreation,” is not leaving the NBC hit show, according to “Parks & Rec” executive producer Michael Schur. “That was surprising to me,” Schur told us at the Paley Festival Wednesday night.

Earlier in the week, rumors swirled that CBS had reached out to Lowe to take over for Sheen on “Men.” Sheen admit it was an idea he could stand behind. In an interview with LA radio station K-Earth 101, Sheen said: “He’s a buddy of mine, he’s a beautiful man, a brilliant actor, and I hope he does it and kicks its ass because I still get [paid].”

“It’s just very silly and completely nonsensical and there’s no truth to it whatsoever,” Shur said. The reason being, Lowe is locked into “Parks & Recreation. “Rob is a full time cast member of the show and has a multi-year contract just like all the other cast members of the show. I think this is a case of someone popped out an idea and then the Internet lit a match and set itself on fire and now here we are now,” added Schur.

When we last left Lowe’s character, he broke up with the lovely Anne Perkins, played by the even lovelier Rashida Jones, and headed to Indianapolis, which might have sparked the rumors of Lowe’s move to another show. But fans don’t need to fret, Chris comes back the episode after Harvest Festival episode, titled “Camping,” and is here to stay.

“He comes back in a surprise jokey way, but I don’t want to spoil it,” said Schur. “There are lingering questions about Chris and Anne. He thought he was never gonna see her again and now he’s back. It sort of gets resolved, but the rest of the season, in part, is about Anne dealing with him as a force in her life and then toward the end of the season there’s a little bit more intrigue that develops.”

A good ol’ classic TV romance love triangle, perhaps? “No, it’s a different set of issues,” he added.

And, for the record, Lowe was not at the Paley festival because he was looking at schools for his kid on the East Coast, said Schur on the Paley panel.
