Who else think it’s time for Jimmy Smits’ bad luck TV streak to end? Well, his latest TV project–yep, he’s back–gives us a lot to be optimistic about and could be the charm.
Smits has signed on to star as Los Angeles Mayor Alfonso Morales in Stephen Gaghan‘s drama pilot (formerly known as “S.I.L.A.”) for NBC, according to Deadline.com.
The series, which focuses on the ambitious mayor and his elite Special Investigations Unit, entwined with Morales’ complicated personal life, is plotted in a structure similar to “Traffic” — the film that won Gaghan an Oscar for best adapted screenplay.
Others actors set among the cast include Noah Emmerich, Danny Pino, Emma Dumont and Madchen Amick.
The beloved TV star from “L.A. Law,” “NYPD Blue” and “The West Wing” is due for a hit, after his recent series strikeouts with “Cane” (cursed by the writer’s strike) and “Outlaw” (cursed by its Friday night time slot).
