“It might be fun.”
Billy Crystal says he would consider returning to the stage as the host of the Oscars–under certain circumstances.
“I think the show needs to change,” Crystal told the Associated Press Thursday. “There’s too many awards and it has to sort of freshen itself up, and if I can be a part of that, that would be great.”
Crystal, 63, says he might be inspired to take back the reigns as the master of ceremonies after receiving a rousing standing ovation at this year’s 83rd Annual Academy Awards.
He made a surprise appearance during this year’s telecast and stood out as one of the few bright spots in the otherwise disastrous co-hosting experiment featuring an underwhelming James Franco paired with the embarrassingly overenthusiastic Anne Hathaway, who acted like a star-stuck fan pulled off the street to host the biggest awards show on the planet.
An eight-time Oscar host, Crystal has the best success track record next to previous Oscar King, the legendary Bob Hope–who hosted the Academy Awards an impressive 18 times.
