Billy Ray Cyrus bared his achy, breaky heart on “The View” Friday in an attempt to set the record straight — and undo the damage — following a magazine interview in which he blamed his family’s troubles on his daughter Miley’s Disney Channel show, “Hannah Montana.”

What troubles? Well, those would include his separation from wife Tish, and also the growing impression that Miley’s become an out-of-control teen (though she is 18). That impression comes mainly from the video clip that surfaced last year of 18-year-old Miley using a bong and definitely inhaling (smoking something called Salvia, supposedly).

Billy Ray did this interview — published just this month in GQ — back in December, not long after the bong video went public and he and his daughter entered a particularly frosty period in their relationship.

However, he told the ladies of “The View” that he’s working hard to put his family back together. Making the most headlines today: Billy Ray’s assertion that he’s dropped divorce proceedings. “A lot of people think that I am divorced,” Billy Ray said. “I am not divorced,” he said as emphatically as he could. “I dropped the divorce. I want to put my family back together!”

He also said his relationship with Miley is back on track. “I feel like I kinda got my Miley back in a way,” he reported. “I feel like we’re the daddy and the daughter that we were before ‘Hannah Montana’ happened. Our communication . . . We’ve laughed a lot in the last couple days.”

Billy Ray, who co-starred in “Hannah Montana” as Hannah’s father, emphasized the word “communication” so much that you got the impression the Cyruses are in family therapy. However, if that’s the case, he didn’t mention it. “You know what?” he said. “Communication is one of the biggest problems that we as human beings have – and I think that for the first time me and my entire family are really communicating with each other in a way [that’s better than] it’s been in quite some time,” he said after Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked how things were going with Tish.

OK, so he’s repairing the relationships with his closest family members, but what about Disney and the TV show, “Hannah Montana,” which Cyrus blamed in the GQ interview for “destroying” his family? (The exact quote was: “I’ll tell you right now — the damn show destroyed my family.”) He also said he wished the show had never happened.

On “The View,” he said it wasn’t the show that undermined his family, it was the fame associated with it. “I would love to set the record straight,” he said. “I love ‘Hannah Montana’. I love Disney. I love our fans that’s been with us throughout this whole show. This has been an incredible journey. . . . Now, fame? Fame is a different animal.”

If he regrets anything now, it’s having agreed to the GQ interview in the first place. “I did that interview in December and at that time my life was a dark mess,” he said. “I did learn this: Doing an interview when you’re mad and scared – it’s a whole lot like goin’ to the grocery store when you’re hungry. It’s not a good idea. I just shouldn’t have done it.”
