13-year-old Internet phenom Rebecca Black joined Jay Leno last night for her first big sit-down interview. The video for Black’s song “Friday” has over 37 million views on YouTube, but has been widely panned for its simplistic lyrics. (“7am, waking up in the morning. Gotta be fresh, gotta go downstairs. Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal.”)

Black told Leno she cried over the initial put downs, but now she’s learned to ignore them, thanks in part to support from celebrity fans like Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell. “He wants to meet me! That’s so cool,” she gushed of Cowell. Black also confessed that all the proceeds from her song are going to support Japan and her school.
