It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost two years since the shocking, public split between the once-adored reality TV family featured on “Jon & Kate Plus 8,” but for those remaining Gosselin watchers, Kate took to “The Today Show” Monday to discuss how her kids are coping post-divorce, her difficult dating life, and the return of her solo TLC show, “Kate Plus 8.”

And, of course, take a subtle dig at ex-husband Jon.

“Are you and Jon good, how is that now?” quizzed co-host Matt Lauer.

“I think it’s still the same,” Kate said, referring to the fallout since divorce and the emotional strain on the family. “I am doing what I can to reach out and communicate, and what I receive back is … not in my control. I’m doing the best that I can to involve him in our family.

“He sees them two weekends a month—and I wish that he would see them more, to be honest, and so do they,” Kate revealed about Jon’s time with the couple’s eight kids. “The important thing is I control my reaction, my behavior, my attitude, my words…” the increasingly self-aware Kate added.

As for how the kids continue to adjust, “We’re good now,” Kate says. The troubled two of the eight–Alexis and Collin, who made headlines a few months ago when they were removed from school–are also improving. They are seeing a therapist and “will be integrated back [to school] in the imminent future,” says Kate, adding, “They are doing amazingly well.”

As the Gosselins “pick up where our family left off and continue with our traditions,” Kate sticks by her guns on her decision to have the eight participate in filming the TLC reality show, insisting “it’s normal” for them.

“It is still a very positive fixture in our lives,” Kate says of making “Kate Plus 8.” “The kids still cheer when the crew comes in the door.”

As for the inevitable question about her own dating life, the 36-year-old reality TV mom rolled her eyes and laughed, “Do we always have to talk about this?”

Apparently, we do.

According to Kate, she’s been on about “half a date” since the divorce.

“Let’s be honest, it’s going to take a strong person to wrangle this mess,” the single mother of eight kids under the age of ten summed up.

“If he can pass the test, he’s got to be superman, so you know….”

The new season of “Kate Plus 8”–which finds Kate and the kids enjoying new adventures Down Under in Australia–premieres tonight at 10 p.m./EST on TLC.
