A New Headwriter for All My Children?

Saturday night, Soaps In Depth tweeted, “Great news kids: [“All My Children“] is NOT being canceled. Even better news: Lorraine Broderick is being named headwriter. It’s official.” The reporter further clarified, “Folks, when something’s a rumor, I say so. Same when it’s fact. AMC being safe and Broderick being named headwriter? FACT.”

After weeks of rumors, culminating in Friday’s TV Guide article claiming that both AMC and “One Life to Live” were going to be canceled and replaced with talk and reality shows, this is as wonderful as winning the lottery — assuming it’s true. Broderick began working for AMC when Agnes Nixon was writing for the show. Last year, when she served as the show’s interim headwriter, fans were pleased by many of her storylines, including Greenlee and David’s marriage of convenience. Her successors, Donna Swajeski and David Kreizman have been generally panned. Under their tenure, AMC has become the lowest rated soap. Let’s hope that ABC confirms this news soon.
