Katie Couric held her ground and evaded giving away her future career plans during her appearance Tuesday on “The View.”

The perky one wasn’t giving in to any pesky questions about her much buzzed status at CBS, despite aggressive prodding from Barbara Walters.

“Will you finally confirm that you’re leaving?” Walters inquired, as if Couric would actually give her fellow newswoman the breaking news.

“No,” Couric said. “I haven’t made a decision.”

“First of all, I don’t think it’s my place to do that,” Couric went on to say. “I respect you wanting to ask the question and make news on The View, but I’m not in a position to discuss it at this time.”

Not one to let it go, Walters went for it again from another angle, “But you may do a syndicated show…”

Couric responded vaguely: “I’m figuring things out … I’m looking at all sorts of opportunities.”

When Couric defended her anchoring gig’s ratings, Walters interrupted her to remind us all the show is, “Still third.”

“Yeah, that’s true,” Couric acknowledged. “Six and a half million people watch every night. … That’s a very big audience. … I continue to do my best every single night. Even at the ‘Today’ show, I was never a ratings-obsessed person. I focused on the quality of the work. … I think it’s top-notch.”

Walters then apparently gave Couric her blessing to move on by telling her, “I think you’re doing the right thing.”

“Well, you don’t know what I’m doing but thank you for saying that,” Couric laughed.

The Latest on Couric: Now She Might Re-Team with Matt Lauer

The rumor mill is grinding away at full tilt, with speculation on Couric’s future plans amid several reports that she will quit anchoring the “CBS Evening News” when her contract expires this year, and launch her own daytime talk show, or become a correspondent on “60 Minutes,” or re-team with her former “Today” co-host Matt Lauer on a joint talk show, or run away and join the circus (okay, I made the last one up).

Couric was on “The View” to promote her new book, “The Best Advice I Ever Got.”
