Aretha Franklin is back. After undergoing major surgery last December, the Queen of Soul made two high profile TV appearances late this week that showed she’s not only slimmer, but healthier. “I feel fabulous,” she told late night host Jimmy Fallon Friday, though she remained tight-lipped on the nature of her illness, saying, “I was concerned myself. It was major surgery. But God is good.” Earlier, speaking to Whoopi Goldberg and crew on “The View“, Franklin acknowledged losing 85 pounds as a result of her operation and has more energy. “I’m going to Whole Foods now,” she said. “I’ve dropped the ham hocks. Dropped the chitlins.”
Franklin, who vowed on last February’s Grammy Awards to recover quickly and return to making music, has made good on her promise. She hit both “The View” and “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” to promote her latest – and 38th – CD, “Aretha: A Woman Falling Out of Love.” The 18-time Grammy winner also plans to keep making music for a long time. Still on her To Do list? Singing with fellow legends Stevie Wonder and Smokey Robinson.
