On Friday’s “Tonight Show,” “All My Children” star Susan Lucci revealed more details about the show’s cancellation. She was given the bad news five minutes before everybody else. ABC Daytime President Brian Frons met with her five minutes before he addressed the rest of the cast and crew. In other words, she was sincere when she spent the first part of her book tour for her memoir All My Life denying rumors of the show’s cancellation. She told Leno, “”I was completely blindsided. I had no idea.”

The always diplomatic Lucci stopped short of criticizing ABC’s decision to cancel AMC, but she did praise fan efforts to save the show. She said, “Our fans are on fire. They are there for us.” She also have a non-denial to a rumor that she would be joining the cast of “Desperate Housewives” after AMC ends, stating that she does not know, but she now believes that rumors are often true.

Most interesting, Lucci revealed that AMC’s creator Agnes Nixon will be actively involved in crafting the show’s finale, saying,”Agnes Nixon has been welcomed back into writing her own show.”
