CBS might be angling to give its ailing morning show a much-need jolt of morning joe. Make that: “Morning Joe,” the sprightly MSNBC morning show to which CBS has reportedly taken a liking.
With “The Early Show” still mired in third place – and a newly installed CBS News president expressing his disappointment with the show in a widely reported memo last month – the rumor mill is churning with word that CBS is trying to lure the producer of “Morning Joe” – Chris Licht – to take over and reenergize “The Early Show.”
If CBS can grab Licht, he might be able to bring “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mica Brzezinski along with him, according to a scenario outlined in the New York Post.
The story points out that Scarborough’s and Brzezinski’s contracts are due to expire next year. That could give CBS an opportunity to remake its morning show – again – after just installing a whole new on-air team this past January. However, the new team – co-hosts Chris Wragge and Erica Hill, with weather forecaster Marysol Castro – have not moved the ratings needle since they replaced Harry Smith, Maggie Rodriguez and Dave Price.
Predictably, neither CBS nor MSNBC would comment on the story.
