‘The Office’: ‘Interim’ Episode Was Hilarious Without Ferrell

This week’s episode of “The Office” just felt homier, didn’t it? That could be because it was the first show in five weeks without the overbearing presence of Will Ferrell.

While we remain staunch defenders of the decision by the “Office” producers to bring Ferrell in for his four-week arc as an interim office manager overlapping with the departing Michael Scott (Steve Carell), the episode that just aired Thursday night on NBC felt cozy and familiar, mainly because the action centered on the “Office” stalwarts we know and love best.

One of them, Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), became interim manager – a lifelong dream – but drove his co-workers crazy. That was certainly predictable. It was also hilarious. By the episode’s end, another unlikely candidate was installed as temporary boss. Wanna find out who it was? Watch the full episode here:

This temp won’t last long either since we already know that a number of candidates for the regional manager’s job – played by guest-stars such as Jim Carrey, Ray Romano and Ricky Gervais – will be coming in for job interviews in next week’s one-hour season finale (Thursday night at 9/8c on NBC).
