It’s the end of an era at Fox.

Fox is canceling its long-running series “America’s Most Wanted” after 23 years, it was announced Monday.

“Most Wanted” is the longest-running series on Fox and has had impressive results, capturing more than 1,000 criminals during its run.

Not wanting to be the, er, bad guy, Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly told reporters Monday that the reason for ending the show simply comes down to dollars and sense: “Economically, it didn’t make sense.” He added, “We want to have a place for repeats … and that’s one of the few places we can do that.”

The crime-stopping isn’t entirely done, however. The program will still have a presence on Fox, appearing as a two-hour special, four times a year, the network confirmed.

“AMW” has been catching crooks since 1988 and averages 5 million viewers on Saturday nights.
