Ah, so close and yet so far.

Just one week until the big finale and the “Dancing with the Stars” competition has been neck-in-neck all season. It was down to a nostalgic ’80s star (Ralph Macchio), the professional athlete (Hines Ward aka the “Silent Assassin”), the charismatic (and flub-prone) actress (Kirstie Alley), and the girl we’d never heard of who danced her way into our hearts (Chelsea Kane).

So who home Tuesday night in the semi-final round?

Could it have been the couple who scored two sets of 30s this week?
The couple who got embroiled in a “dirty” cat fight with Bruno Tonioli?
The couple who made for great television with all their mishaps?
Or the couple who took risks beyond the judges’ wildest imaginations?

“DWTS” Star on Brutal Injury: “I’ve Never Been So Scared”

***Spoiler Alert***

The couple sent packing was somewhat expected, as they were at the bottom of the leaderboard two weeks in a row. Say goodbye to Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff.

“My gratitude is overwhelming,” said Ralph about his fan support during his parting words. “Karina, you have inspired me in so many ways with your heart and talent and class and integrity as an artist and even more so as a human being.”

That means battling it out in the season finale next week are: Hines Ward and Kym Johnson, Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas, and Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

As for the much-anticipated freestyle round next Monday night, Kirstie said they are planning “a lot of aerials.” Kym said their freestyle might be Jackson-5-related. And Chelsea said instead of going out of the box, they are going to go “clean, traditional.” Kidding, right? Right.
