It’s hard enough to be booted off “Dancing with the Stars” just one week to the finale – but it’s even harder when you truly don’t think you deserved to go.

Such is the case with Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff, who are still reeling from the judges’ low scores and nasty comments on Monday night’s for their Argentine Tango and Salsa.

“I thought they were rude and disrespectful,” he said. “I thought the [Argentine] tango was very strong, maybe not my best dance of the whole run, but a solid one. And the content, if you look at the content in our dances, and that’s one thing I’ve learned about the show and I’ve always pushed Karina to push me as far as I can go. Why do step together turn, when you can do double turn and add a few more steps?”

Added Karina, “They said everything besides the actual words, ‘We don’t want you in the finale!’

The comments in question came in part from Bruno Tonioli, whose critique was briefly bleeped. He also referred to Karina, who was dressed in a leopard-print catsuit, as a “pussycat.”

The pair was not surprised to go home Tuesday night. “I went to bed thinking that this was, yeah…,” Ralph told reporters. “With the extra 15 points that Chelsea and Mark gained, between Hines’ and Kirstie’s fan bases and the deficit we were put at with the judges’ scores and comments, I wasn’t quite sure even the biggest fan base out there could’ve over come that deficit. So I was ready for it.”

Ralph and Karina, along with the other past contestants, will return next week to dance in the finale. “We’ll just repeat one of our favorite dances,” added Karina. Will he pull out the crane move from the “Karate Kid?” Probably not. “If I was voted through, those promises would’ve been kept, but at this point we’ll pick out one of our signature dances,” he added. Karina also said they would ask their Twitter fans what dance they’d like to see the pair perform.

After that? Possibly more television for the “Karate Kid.” “It’s an exiting time now that all the network Upfronts are happening right now and new shows are being picked up, recast. Coming off of this could be a very big opportunity. ABC certainly always been a friendly network. Maybe there’s a nice perfect, easy fit to step right in there. You can’t argue that there isn’t a fan base out there,” he added.
