Gleeks who have been missing the soulful crooning of The Schue (aka Matthew Morrison) will get what they’ve been longing for when the season finale of “Glee” airs tonight.

Not only will the episode feature Schue’s first solo in many weeks, but his chosen song will be a (soon-to-be hit) single by … Matthew Morrison! That’s right, “Glee’s” musical direction has officially gone meta.

Morrison Dishes on “Glee’s” Season Finale:

Morrison told The Hollywood Reporter that what was originally scheduled to be a busy dance number was altered to be simply Schue singing a heartfelt ballad to an empty Broadway house in the New York-set finale. He added that he’s so pleased with how the Ryan Murphy-directed scene came out, he may use it as the official video for the single.

The song, “Still Got Tonight,” was penned by “American Idol” winner Kris Allen, along with Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner. You can hear it on Morrison’s debut solo album that drops Tuesday.

Murphy said the number is “about aspiration.” This should fit right in with the current storyline following Mr. Schue’s ambivalence over whether to continue teaching the glee kids or pursue his dream of Broadway stardom. Murphy explained, “We worked really hard to make it feel organic to the show.”

The performance is sure to drum up excitement for Morrison’s summer tour, which kicks off on June 18. But don’t fret – that tightly-curled mop and adored little butt chin will continue to make appearances in your living room, as Morrison is scheduled to return to “Glee” next season.

“Glee” airs Tuesday night at 8 p.m./EST on Fox.
