Bradley Cooper appeared on a French news program Wednesday to discuss “Limitless” and “Very Bad Trip 2” (aka “The Hangover II“). The big shocker? He speaks fluent French! Watch his impressive mastery of the language – which he attributes to living with a French family during a study abroad program in Aix-en-Provence – below, then read a translation of what he actually said.
The first Hangover film made you a big star at 33. Before that you were sort of unknown. How do you explain the success of this movie?
Frankly, I can’t explain it. We were in the middle of making a movie in Las Vegas with a Chinese guy who pops out of the trunk of a car naked. That’s going to be really successful, right?! It’s a miracle that everyone loves it.
Your celebrity came later in life. Has that helped you?
I’m 36 now. I know that if I’d been younger it would have been more difficult to tell the difference between what’s real and what isn’t.
This film is already a big success – were you scared about disappointing people with a sequel?
No, because I’m really happy with it. And the director Todd Phillips is the best. And Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms are the best comedians in the States. I’m really excited for people to watch it, because I love it too.
Would you do a third film?
We’ll see. If people want another, I’d like to…
You’re the lead in “Limitless,” which co-stars Robert De Niro. De Niro is your idol, right?
Yeah, he’s a hero of mine. He’s the reason why I wanted to become an actor. It was a dream working on this movie. And now he’s a good friend of mine.
Working opposite DeNiro must have been intimidating.
Yeah, it’s weird because it’s so easy. He knows what he wants, he knows what he believes.
You have a bunch of projects in the works. What’s your goal – to become the next George Clooney?
George Clooney is the best – he’s the king. I want to learn more and improve as an actor. That’s it. It’s pretty simple. And I want to work with incredible directors.
