Sunday night’s “Real Housewives of Orange County” season finale gave us a sting in our eyeballs, as we watched Tamra Barney and Jeana Keough’s wine toss tantrum explode into something worse than Tamra and Eddie’s icky poo bathtub scene. But fans may have been left restless with the earlier ear-splitting battle between Alexis Bellino and Peggy Tanous, who confronted her younger frenemy on why she was jabbing at the elder’s newly plumped rack and lips—among many other things—throughout the season.
We got to chat it up with Miss Pegs on Monday about the season finale and if she thinks she’ll ever be able to patch things up with Miss Co-Dependent.
Were you at all surprised at Tamra’s version of the fight between her and Jeana compared to what really went down on camera?
I’m not her—I can’t comment on things that she does. I’m just glad it wasn’t me! [Laughs.]
Apart from the problems between you and Alexis, what was the hardest situation to watch unfold this entire season?
Probably my [story about struggling with postpartum], but I’m thankful Bravo agreed to show me filming the documentary because of the outreach of women I’m helping and what it means for me to get involved with organizations…and getting more awareness on the doctor’s end and the hospital’s end. It was obviously hard to watch because I did have some really dark days, and I know it was really hard on my family. But at the end of the day, it’s also helping people, so that’s nice.
Alexis Bellino causes a scene at Peggy and Micah Tanous’ annual dinner party:
Were you surprised that Alexis called in when you were hanging with Andy Cohen on “Watch What Happens Live”?
Yes! That poor girl! We’re both gonna have our own perceptions and really when it comes down to it—we’re really different people, there’s an age difference, we’re just at different places in our life—you know, move past it. But I just couldn’t believe she called in, and I feel like she doesn’t even know who she is this year. I almost come from a place that I feel bad for her because she’s constantly calling [Andy’s] show in to defend things that she’s said or done, and you just need to know who you are before you spout off the mouth. I just feel she doesn’t know who she is and a lot of that could be her changing relationship with her husband. When she called in I was very surprised, but I was also just like ‘Are you kidding me? Are we in high school here? Can we move past this experience?’
We know it happened a long time ago and you’d rather forget about the experience, but what was it like dating Alexis’ hubby Jim and why did you guys stop seeing each other?
Like I had said before, it was never like a serious thing. It sounds like maybe he thought it was more serious. I know [Alexis] was calling in last night and said ‘Oh, you made it sound like a Harley Ride, but it was a couple months,’ but over a couple months, with his personality, it was like, one week you’re talking and the next week you’re not. You’re dealing with a very an almost volatile, wishy-washy person. I think her being upset was ‘Oh, you didn’t say how long it really was…’ but first of all, who cares? It was so long ago, but second of all, your husband should be telling you these things instead of me and he didn’t. It’s not appropriate for me to talk about it, and I didn’t want to hurt her feelings…I was trying to be a nice friend.
When did Alexis find out you and Jim had dated in the past?
I think [her finding out] was at the heart of her being so ugly to me this season. When we started becoming friends, I said to [Jim], ‘Hey, I know it was so long ago and it was so casual, but do you think you should tell her because that’s something she might want to know and she can make a decision from there if she’s comfortable hanging out with me.’ But like I said last night, he completely yelled at me about it and was like ‘No! I don’t want you telling her at all!’ And I told him I have to respect [his] wishes…but he didn’t tell her until right before we were filming.
If you had to sum up in a few words why your friendship fell apart, what would you say?
For me I would say she started completely changing as a person. She really started changing before I ever started filming on the show. When I got the show, she completely changed even more.
“Changed” in what respect?
You know, she just started acting different. She just wasn’t the same person I knew. Obviously, she was busier since she was filming a show. I don’t know specifics; she just wasn’t the same person that I remember. She just wasn’t as friendly. I just felt like it wasn’t reciprocal—it was more me making the effort, and I think you even see that as a viewer.
Even last night’s episode, she was like ‘I just don’t care!’ Ok, well that’s the point. I don’t feel you care, and I keep bringing it up because I’m trying to figure out why you don’t care. At the end of the day, she was harboring these bad feelings of what happened with Jim and feeling like I should’ve told her, but that wasn’t my place.
Do you have any desire to make-up with her?
I feel like we’re so different. At this point in time, no.
If you could say anything to her right now, what would it be?
I just wish her the best. I hope that she is happy and she stays true to who she is. I don’t harbor any bad feelings.
