LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – Swedish actor Joel Kinnaman, star of AMC’s serial drama “The Killing,” has nabbed a lead role in “Lola Versus,” a low-budget romantic comedy feature that starts shooting later this month in New York.
The Fox Searchlight picture stars Greta Gerwig as a woman who is dumped by her tattooed artist boyfriend (Kinnaman) just weeks before her wedding and embarks on a series of encounters ranging from the horrible to the embarrassing to the enlightening as she navigates life as a single woman.
Zoe Jones, who co-wrote the script with director Daryl Wein, plays her best friend, a struggling New York theater actress.
Kinnaman caught the attention of Hollywood with his work in the acclaimed Swedish thriller “Snabba cash” (Easy Money). That led to his casting as the co-lead in “The Killing,” which was renewed for a second season earlier Monday. He stars opposite Mireille Enos as a brusque Seattle detective who favors hoodies and is accused of dressing like Justin Bieber.
Kinnaman was cast last month in “Safe House,” a thriller starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds.
