NFL Net Scores Interview with Larry David, ‘Curb’ Co-Stars

The NFL Network will help kick off the new season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

It might seem like an odd pairing, but take a closer look: As it happens, NFL Network is in the midst of rerunning last summer’s “Hard Knocks” series – the annual football training camp docu-series on HBO that featured the New York Jets last year. In addition, we have a sneaking suspicion that, though “Curb” is enjoyed by both men and women, men love it even more since many of them no doubt can identify with the Larry David character and his frustrations with the world around him.

Whatever the reasons for this alignment of the NFL and the funniest TV sitcom since “Seinfeld,” when “Hard Knocks” ends its repeat run on NFL Net on Thursday, July 7, the telecast will be followed (at 10/9c) by an interview with David, conducted by Rich Eisen. The eighth season of “Curb” starts July 10 on HBO.

Eisen is the host of two shows on NFL Network – “NFL Total Access” and “NFL GameDay Morning” – and now he’s adding a third, “The Rich Eisen Podcast.” That show has been a podcast-only show until now. Eisen’s interview with Larry David represents the TV premiere of the “Podcast” series. The NFL Network debut of “The Rich Eisen Podcast” will start with a one-on-one interview with David and then feature a roundtable discussion about “Curb” with David and co-stars Jeff Garlin (who plays David’s agent, Jeff Greene, on the show), Bob Einstein (“Marty Funkhouser”) and comedian J.B. Smoove (who plays “Leon”).

It’s a great lineup for Eisen since, to our knowledge, these four are not booked to appear together anywhere else.

“Putting the podcast on television is a natural extension of the show, and will either bring the program to a wider audience to enjoy or offer me a larger platform on which to flame out spectacularly,” Eisen said.
