Daytime Stars Get Ready to Party At the Emmys in Vegas

This Sunday night, the Daytime Emmys will air live from Las Vegas. This has been a year of tremendous change for daytime. Two soaps, “All My Children” and “One Life to Live” have been canceled. Oprah Winfrey and Regis Philbin have chosen to leave their talk shows. The Emmys are a chance for everyone to set aside their concerns about the future and celebrate. A trio of soap stars discussed their plans for the weekend, their predictions about who will win, and the storylines that are keeping their shows sizzling.

Scott Clifton (Liam “The Bold & the Beautiful“) Outstanding Younger Actor Nominee

You’re the front runner for the Younger Actor category.
I am? I thought it was Chad Duell.

You’re the only person ever to be nominated in this category for three different roles on three different shows.
Is that true? What is the most losses for a younger actor? I’m hoping I have the most losses. How cool would that be?

How did you pick which episode to submit?
Last year [when I was on “One Life to Live”] I submitted something that was a little over-the-top and a bit schticky and I think I ended up paying for it. This year I tried to find something a little more subtle. So I chose a scene where I’m really just reacting to Bill being my father and the subsequent scenes where we’re hashing out their relationship.

What’s coming up for Liam and Hope? Is he going to figure out he never slept with Amber?
We’ll have to see what happens when the baby’s born. Then he’s going to be raising a baby with Amber.

B&B is the favorite to threepeat for best show. Is everyone going to the ceremony with a little swagger, thinking you’ve got it in the bag?
I think Brad Bell is a very humble, albeit talented man. I’m sure he’s not going to walk in with a swagger. Personally, I think it is in the bag for him. He wrote an amazing story. He submitted an amazing reel. I think he’s going to take it. I think once he does… his father would have been proud.

What do you think is the future of daytime television?
I would like to think that, worst case scenario, we lost our soaps , I would like to think that they’ll continue going strong in the rest of the world because soaps are an integral part of many cultures. Take Italy for example and “The Bold & the Beautiful.” It’s the number one show. And that’s primetime or daytime. So I think soaps can last. It’s going to take some engineering and innovation.

Eric Marstolf (Brady) “Days of Our Lives”

How do you feel about all the changes at “Days of Our Lives?”
Change is inevitable. Obviously, some of the changes hurt with people leaving. They’re loved one. They’re friends. And it’s tough to say goodbye. The good news is, in soaps you don’t really ever say goodbye. You kind of say, “Aloha.” I’ve learned that in the past ten years. Just when you think something is never going to happen, God laughs in your face. The soap Gods laugh at you. So I never really sat goodbye to anyone or anything. It all comes back in the wash as quickly as you said goodbye. So in a nutshell, it’s disheartening to say goodbye to some colleagues. They’re all talented and they’ll bounce back.

What are you most looking forward to about the Emmys?
The craps table. I didn’t go to the Emmys last year in Vegas. I’m really looking forward to going this year. I happen to love that town because that’s when I can be irresponsible. I’m a husband and a father. That’s the one weekend where I can be a little irresponsible so I plan to do that. I’ll gamble a little bit , drink a little bit, but I’m jut looking forward to spending time with the daytime community. There’s going to be a lot of sadness, but I’m hoping we can still find a way to party through it and have a good time.

Any predictions on who will win?
I would like to see James Scott win an Emmy. I think he deserves it. I watch how hard he works every day. So I’d be very happy to see him win. I think Christian LeBlanc is a great actor from Y&R. He’s a good friend and he’s got a great work ethic so I want to see those two guys win and I hope “Sesame Street” wins because I love that show.

What is next for Brady? He just beat up E.J.
It was a very manly, gladiator fight. It wasn’t pretty, either. There was a lot of blood, a lot of violence, kicking him when he’s down. But I was a big fan of the scene. I thought it was about time that Brady blew up at him. There have been so many stand-offs and, sooner or later, someone’s going to throw a punch and finding out about Arianna’s death sent Brady over the edge. He definitely doesn’t show any sign of returning to the good old-fashioned vanilla Brady. So you can expect more trouble. But you can also probably expect more romance. We have new writers, and they’ve come in in a big way and shook up a lot of storylines. There’s going to be a lot of people relating to each other that haven’t done so in a long time. I think viewers are going to be really happy with the changes.

Tracey Bregman (Lauren) “The Young & the Restless”

You are the spokesperson for the new real-life Jabot line of cosmetics. What will you be doing to promote the line at the Emmys?
Jabot is sponsoring the Emmys. We’re giving away our Red Carpet Secret collection which we are launching and then I jump on a plane and on the 21st we are launching our preview on the Home Shopping Network. [We’re on] once on the 21st and three times on the 22nd during the day and then we launch the full line July 28th on Home Shopping and then in October in 600 Ulta stores in the United States.

This product launch is being referenced on the show. Are the products really made with cactus pectin, like the character Jack Abbott mentioned earlier this week?
There is the 5 Star Wrinkle Serum that is made with cactus pectin, which is the most amazing ingredient. It’s anhydrous, which means it’s made without water.  It’s in a sugar capsule and literally it does not burst open until it goes into the dermis and the amount of moisture that it brings to your face is what we lack.

What’s coming up for Lauren?
I’m now part of [Victor’s] board. Lauren’s putting the Jabot line in Fenmore’s.

What are you looking forward to doing this weekend in Vegas?
Launching Jabot and watching everyone from Y&R take home the trophies. I think it’s going to be a clean sweep.
