Is ‘Modern Family’ Recasting Baby Lily?

Could “Modern Family” be replacing little Lily with an aged-up toddler? According to E! Online, the show’s producers are currently casting for an “Asian, 3- to 4-year-old daughter of Mitchell and Cameron.” And before you go imagining that it’s the potential new Cam-Mitch child mentioned in the Season 2 finale, consider that many involved with the show have been hinting at a baby swap for months. First in February, when executive producer Steve Levitan said Lily would have a more “mature” walking/talking storyline in Season 3. And then again, when Jesse Tyler Ferguson said Lily would have a more “prominent” role next season, and wondered whether the twins who play Lily now (Jaden and Ella Hiller) are even inclined to act. (Bet they said the same thing about the Olsens.) ABC has yet to confirm the casting call. Production on Season 3 begins August 1.

UPDATED: This just in from Steve Levitan and Chris Lloyd, Creators and Executive Producers of “Modern Family”: “We adore Jaden and Ella, but have started to think that maybe they’d rather be at home playing than working as actors. If we end up making a change, it’s only because we want what’s best for them.”
