Over the weekend the Internet was abuzz with reports that Jennifer Lopez would be making a “big announcement” Monday morning. The announcement, many thought, would be a confirmation of her return to the judges’ table on “American Idol” next season. Ever the savvy media veteran, Lopez did in fact make a big announcement on Monday’s “Today Show” – but it wasn’t what we, nor interviewer Ann Curry, expected.

“I’m here to announce I Heart Radio’s launch with their new concert. Me, Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, Coldplay, Steven Tyler, Carrie Underwood, Steven Tyler, Black Eyed Peas,” Lopez said after Curry teed up her “special” news. “It’s going to be this amazing concert in Las Vegas on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24 to launch the new I Heart Radio, where you can kind of custom your own radio station. It’s pretty exciting. I’m glad to be doing it.”

Said Curry of the fake-out news: “A lot of people were thinking you were going to make an announcement about ‘American Idol.’ When can we expect that?”

“I love working on ‘American Idol,'” J. Lo answered. “I have no announcement to make as of this moment, but I promise you guys will be the first to know.”

Right now Lopez is the one remaining unconfirmed judge for next season. Both Randy Jackson and Steven Tyler will be back when “Idol” returns in January.
