Robert Wagner is bailing on the remake of the jiggly seventies PI series “Charlie’s Angels,” debuting this fall on ABC.
According to TV Guide, Wagner will no longer be voicing the role of “Angels” mystery boss Charlie (made famous by John Forsythe in the original series).
“Due to his scheduling conflicts, Robert Wagner will need to step away from his duties as Charlie on Charlie’s Angels,” says a statement to TV Guide.
The casting of Wagner, 81, on the remake was a coup, since the debonair actor with a smooth voice of his own knows a thing or two about sleuthing thanks to his days on “Hart to Hart” and a thing or two about mystery men from his stint as a cat burglar in the slick sixties series “It Takes a Thief.”
But ultimately, the move for Wagner is probably Heaven sent. I’ve seen the pilot episode for this remake, starring Minka Kelly, Annie Ilonzeh and Rachael Taylor, and, trust me, he’s better off remaining far, far away from this lackluster project – these “Angels” will likely get their wings clipped in no time.
