Monkees Careful Not to Diss Missing Mike on ‘The View’

The Monkees reunited Friday on “The View” – minus one. Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork, three of the four original Monkees from the 1966 hit shows answered questions from Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, Sherri Sheperd, and Whoopi Goldberg, who turned to Dolenz and said, “So Micky, hon, let me start with you. What you been up to, honey?” The resulting conversation was a fun, spirited catch-up that included a striking comparison of Jones and Justin Bieber, though one Monkee was conspicuously absent – Mike Nesmith, the group’s guitarist and best known for wearing a knit cap. “We got to ask, where’s the fourth member of the Monkees?” asked Sheperd. “He’s gone,” the three Monkees said in unison. Nesmith hasn’t toured with the group since he quit the band in 1970 and the still-touring threesome were carefully diplomatic in answering why he wasn’t with them. Translation: they said nothing. But where is Nesmith? According to a fairly recent article in a British paper, Nesmith, now 68, lives a quiet, simple life in Carmel, California. He inherited millions of dollars from his mother, the inventor of Liquid Paper, and he’s married to his third wife. Take a look at their interview here:
