The relationship between “Grey’s Anatomy” Drs. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) is like a hospital closet light switch — it goes on and off with a fair degree of regularity. And, according to TV Guide Magazine’s WIlliam Keck, things will be flickering back to life once again this fall. He has series creator Shonda Rhimes on the record stating that even though the couple ended last season apart, “we open the [first] episode with Derek working on their dream house, and I would love to have them moving in around the end of the season.”
And the reason for this reunion? Baby Zola, whom the couple adopted last season. “(She) is transformative for Meredith, and what happens will be painful, unexpected and wonderful,” says Rhimes.
There have been plenty of media reports that this is the last season for both Pompeo and Dempsey, However, Rhimes is taking an optimistic approach to their future, hoping that “everything’s going to work out. I know both Patrick and Ellen are excited about the idea of continuing, but that doesn’t mean everything’s going to work.”
