If you thought Taylor Armstrong’s montage of breakdowns on the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” Season 2 preview clip was rough, here’s one big reason that may have contributed to her downward spiral: She claims she was physically and verbally abused by her hubby Russell.

“I felt like I was dying inside,” she tells People. “Now, there’s some sense of peace.”

The 40-year-old, who recently filed for divorce to end their nearly six-year marriage, tells the mag that their arguments could turn so explosive that Russell would sometimes curse and call her names and at other times, throw objects, pull her hair, and grab and shove her around.

In his own defense, Russell denies that any hair-pulling took place and partly blames the show for their relationship’s demise. “Did I push her? Yes, maybe things happened in the heat of the moment, but it was during a time in our lives that was not characteristic of who we were. This show has literally pushed us to the limit.”

Although Taylor says the couple took incredible strides to fix their marriage, she knew it wasn’t healthy. Still, she credits Russell for being an excellent father to their 5-year-old daughter Kennedy and says she’d like to share custody with him.

“I hope we can co-parent as healthy as possible,” she says. “He’s an amazing dad, and I want her to still think her dad is the greatest guy on the planet.”

However, she knows the transition won’t be easy. “I think I hurt for my daughter more than I do for myself,” she confides. “It feels like a big loss that she’s not going to grow up with both of her parents in the same house.”

Season 2 of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” airs September 5 on Bravo.
