The face is familiar, but the role is new. Ted Danson is officially working the crime beat on “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.” CBS released a photo of the Emmy-winning veteran actor, who takes over for Laurence Fishburne in the show’s 12th season. Fishburne, of course, replaced William Petersen. The hit series recently began shooting new episodes. Earlier in July, the network announced Danson would be playing grave shift supervisor D.B. Russell and working alongside Marg Helgenberger and Jorja Fox. “You can create a new character on the page, but until the perfect actor comes along and breathes life into it, it’s just words,” ‘CSI’ executive producer Carol Mendelsohn said at the time. “We’re very excited Ted Danson came along.” Will Danson help the series, which has suffered some loss of steam in the ratings department? A check of message boards indicates longtime fans still bemoan Petersen’s departure (“Grissom will never be replaced”), but one woman on the L.A. Times’s Awards Tracker blog commented, “I look forward to seeing what Ted Danson will bring.” Indeed, so does the network.
