Just hours after ABC announced that this will be the final season of “Desperate Housewives,” several of the show’s stars, including Marcia Cross, Felicity Huffman, Brenda Strong and James Denton, appeared at ABC’s All-Star cocktail party for the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills, Calif.

TV critics descended on the “Housewives” Sunday night, eager for their reactions to the news that the show was coming to an end after eight seasons in May 2012.

It’s Official: “Desperate Housewives” to End This Season

Marcia Cross, who plays prim but not always proper Bree, was a little less surprised to learn the show’s fate than some of her cast mates.

“I had said to the girls earlier, they are making an announcement and you don’t make an announcement unless there’s something to announce,” Cross told reporters. “Everybody seemed to be in a little more denial, but I felt pretty clear like, ‘Let’s be ready because it’s coming. And also that it was a good thing, it felt right.”

Cross found out from her manager and revealed that when she texted costar Felicity Huffman, Huffman hadn’t yet heard the news.

But Cross says while she’s a bit sad, she’s also relieved: “I kinda knew it was coming and I was glad that it was finally decided. Now we can really enjoy this last year and make it really fantastic.”

As the cast and crew begins to work on this bittersweet, final season, how would Cross like to see Bree go out?

“I’m sure Marc’s [Cherry] already figured it out, but I definitely want to see all my men again,” she says. “I’ve had a lot of fabulous men, I want them to come back.”

She also says there’s one souvenir from her time as a “Desperate Housewife” that she’ll be taking with her from the set:

“A nice set of pearls – that was her signature,” Cross smiled.

The final season of “Desperate Housewives” premieres Sunday, Sept. 25 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
