The switcheroos going on at Seattle Grace keep on coming.

Season 8 of “Grey’s Anatomy” will find another change in the hospital’s administration: Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) will take over as the new Chief of Surgery, reports TVLine. The promotion follows in the wake of Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew) landing the gig as chief resident.

“He’s as surprised as anybody else about this. And he’s nervous about it,” Kevin McKidd told TVLine.

What does this mean for “The Chief” AKA Dr. Richard Webber? In the season premiere, viewers will learn that Webber has decided to step down as “The Chief” due to “what’s happening with Adele [and her Alzheimer’s] and what happened with Meredith and the drug trials,” according to TVLine.

“People give him a hard time,” McKidd says, regarding how the staff receives him in his new role. “It’s not going to be easy for Owen being the chief in the aftermath of Richard Webber.”

Managing the fallout isn’t exactly Owen’s chief concern though. He and his wife, Dr. Cristna Yang, are still dealing with her unexpected pregnancy. “There’s so much more going on in Cristina and Owen’s life,” McKidd says, “that this in a way that adds another layer of complication for them.”

The two-hour season premiere of “Grey’s Anatomy” premieres Thursday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. on ABC.
