History Channel has found someone for Kevin Costner to feud with – “Big Love’s” Bill Paxton.
The two will star as patriarchs of those warring hillbilly clans, the Hatfields and the McCoys, in a miniseries about their infamous family feud that’s being produced by History Channel.
Costner was previously announced for the role of “Devil” Anse Hatfield, and now, Paxton has been cast as Costner’s McCoy clan counterpart, Randall McCoy, History Channel announced Tuesday.
Originally announced last May, this planned multi-part production – titled “The Hatfields and McCoys: An American Vendetta” – is History Channel’s first scripted miniseries. As a scripted production boasting major stars, the miniseries represents a departure for History, which is best-known for a wide-range of unscripted (or semi-unscripted) series such as “American Pickers” and “Ice Road Truckers.”
There was no word on when exactly the miniseries would premiere, although it’s expected to air some time in 2012.
The Hatfield-McCoy feud unfolded over a period of nearly 15 years in the last quarter of the 19th century on the border of Kentucky and West Virginia. Wikipedia has a pretty good summary of the story here.
