‘Mentalist’ Cast Members Get Big Salary Increases

Cast members of “The Mentalist” just got a raise, reports Deadline.com.

Series star Simon Baker already got his late last year, the story says, but now, supporting players Robin Tunney (“Teresa Lisbon”), Amanda Righetti (“Grace Van Pelt), Tim Kang (“Kimball Cho”) and Owain Yeoman (“Wayne Rigsby”) have also received salary increases.

Previously, Baker negotiated a deal estimated at more than $30 million, according to the story, including $350,000 per episode and a percentage of syndication profits (TNT bought the rights to the “Mentalist” repeats for $2.2 million-2.3 million an episode, the story says).

Under her new deal, Tunney gets a raise from $75,000 an episode to more than $100,000 with annual raises that will eventually bring her to $200,000. The other three will see their salaries rise from about $40,000-50,000 an episode to $70,000-80,000, increasing to $100,000 per episode by Season Six. That’s assuming the show lasts that long, which it likely will, since it’s one of the most popular hour dramas on television.

In a related programming note: You can see a real-life mentalist – a man who goes by the single name of Banachek – on an ABC News special tonight (Wednesday, Aug. 17) at 10/9c. The show – from the producers of “Nightline” and titled “Primetime Nightline: Beyond Belief” – has correspondent Juju Chang investigating the claims of psychics and clairvoyants. Banachek, like Simon Baker’s character of Patrick Jane on “The Mentalist,” is a self-described skeptic who will reveal some of the tricks of the psychics’ trade. This fascinating special was previewed Tuesday night on “Nightline” and it seemed worthwhile enough to recommend it here.

Meanwhile, “The Mentalist” is set to start its fourth season on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 10 p.m./9c.
