America’s Got Talent” turned into The Roast of Piers Morgan Tuesday night.

Comedian J. Chris Newberg (who the grouchy judge had previously called “unfunny”) returned to the show for Wild Card night — and came out swinging.

“On ‘America’s Got Talent’ you said that you want people to hate you,’ he said to raucous cheers from the studio audience. “Wow! This show really does make dreams come true.”

Newberg — who was eliminated from the competition last month but granted a do-over by judge Howie Mandel — also attacked Morgan’s low rated CNN talk show.

“My other favorite show is ‘Piers Morgan Tonight,'” he said. “It is broadcast in 100 countries and watched by almost 100 people… Your ratings are so bad, I heard Leno might take over.”

The Detroit native won praise from all three judges — even Morgan himself, who buzzed him after an opening jab about the ongoing phone hacking scandal in the UK.

“I was actually horrorstruck,” he told us immediately after the live, two hour show.

“But then as he went on, I was finding him genuinely funny. Even though he was killing me, it was good material. If you are going to do a roast, it has got t o be vicious, smart and topical.”

The wild card show has become a fan favorite each season, allowing each judge to bring back four previously eliminated contestants.

Four of the twelve acts will advance to the next round on Wednesday night.

The winner of “America’s Got Talent” will be crowned September 14, live on NBC.
