Food fight! As expected, the water boiled over in the kitchen of Paula Deen after Anthony Bourdain told TV Guide that “the worst, most dangerous person to America is clearly Paula Deen.”
In the interview, he also blasted Rachael Ray (“does she even cook anymore?”), Guy Fieri (“I look at Guy and I just think, Jesus, I’m glad that’s not me'”), and Sandra Lee. But Bourdain layered it thickest on the Queen of Butter.
“She revels in unholy connections with evil corporations and she’s proud of the fact that her food is [bleep]ing bad for you . . . plus, her food sucks,” he said. Well, Deen fired back at the bestselling author and “No Reservations” TV host. Contacted by the NY Post’s Page Six column, she said, “Anthony Bourdain needs to get a life. You don’t have to like my food, or Rachael’s, Sandra’s and Guy’s. But it’s another thing to attack our character.”
She talked about her charitable good works. “You know, not everybody can afford to pay $58 for prime rib or $650 for a bottle of wine. My friends and I cook for regular families who worry about feeding their kids and paying the bills.”
Deen also appeared on Fox and Friends, where she added, “”I was actually kind of shocked considering I’ve never met Anthony. I know he’s never been to my home; I’ve never cooked for him. I don’t think he’s been to my restaurant.” Even though Bourdain seemed to clarify his remarks on Twitter, explaining he actually said she was the most dangerous person to American cooking on the Food Network,, it’s still unlikely he’ll get a reservation at Deen’s restaurant.
