In his first MTV VMA appearance since 1993, Tony Bennett will return to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse on Sunday’s awards show.
Bennett, who worked with Winhouse on the track “Body and Soul” for his upcoming album, Duets II, will introduce a video of their recording session from this past March. Additional yet-to-be-announced musical salutes are also planned, which could mean a larger scale memorial from scheduled performers Adele, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Bruno Mars, and others.
In a statement via MTV, Bennett said: “It was a thrill to record with Amy Winehouse and when you listen to the recording of ‘Body and Soul,’ it is a testament to her artistic genius and her brilliance as one of the most honest musicians I have ever known.”

On July 23, Winehouse was found unresponsive in her London apartment. Her cause of death is still unknown.
All proceeds from “Body and Soul” – which will be released Sept. 14, what would have been Winehouse’s 28th birthday – will go to the Amy Winehouse Foundation.
“Our family is honored that the VMA’s are giving Amy this wonderful tribute,” Winehouse’s father Mitch said. “We know that Amy’s performance of ‘Rehab’ at the MTV Movie Awards played an important part in Amy’s worldwide success.”
The MTV Video Music Awards will air this Sunday, Aug. 28 at 9/8c.
