“The View” to Air Tribute to “All My Children”
It’s just 21 days until “All My Children” will air its final episode on ABC. One hour before AMC’s ABC finale, ‘The View” will devote its entire September 23rd episode to the soap. Susan Lucci will co-host. Agnes Nixon, Cameron Mathison, Rebecca Budig, and Vincent Irizarry are scheduled to appear, along with some surprise guests. There will also be behind-the-scenes footage of the show’s final episode. The whole audience will be AMC fans. I hope the actors and the audience are allowed to share their true feelings about the end of the show’s daytime run. Lucci has given a candid interview in the August 29th edition of TV Guide magazine, in which she questions ABC Daytime President Brian Frons decision, saying “Was there disdain for daytime drama on the part of [ABC Daytime chief] Brian Frons? Did he every really like what we did at ‘All My Children’?” Apparently, the new paperback version of Lucci’s memoir has been revised to include her thoughts on the show’s cancellation. If everyone decides to get real, this could be the juiciest episode of “The View” since the 2008 presidential campaign.
Series creator Agnes Nixon told the Chicago Tribune that the show will end with a cliffhanger that will keep viewers on pins and needles until the show’s internet launch in 2012. “The head of Prospect Park (the production company taking over the shows) said, “We’ve got to have a big cliffhanger for that three months.’ And so I came up with one which I can’t tell you. But they loved it.” I am thrilled that Nixon is going to be involved with the show when it moves online. While there is still no word on which cast members will be staying with the show, Nixon’s creative input may make the Internet version of the show closer to classic AMC than it has been for the past decade.
