“All My Children” star Susan Lucci made headlines this weekend when excerpts from an updated edition of her memoir All My Life were released in which she criticizes ABC Daytime President Brian Frons for his decision to cancel the soap. Lucci wrote that Frons, “has that fatal combination of ignorance and arrogance.” Now she is weighing in on AMC’s replacement, the cooking show “The Chew.”
In August, at the Television Critics Association Press Tour panels, “The Chew’s” Executive Producer Gordon Elliot claimed at that he would like Lucci to be a guest on the show, saying, “She’s Italian… She can bring on a lasagna.” Elliot also wrongly said that Lucci had authored a cookbook. (Perhaps he was confusing her with “Days of Our Lives” star Deidre Hall, who wrote Deidre Hall’s Kitchen Closeup.) When Lucci was asked about Elliot’s remarks at a recent press junket, she considered her words carefully before pointedly responding, “I just heard about this last night. Someone told me. I have no problem with lasagna. I like lasagna.”
Her co-star Walt Willey, who was with her, commented,“That was very high brow.”
In a segment on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” that aired earlier this year, Lucci made it clear that her husband does the cooking in her household.
