Forget about surviving the summer heat (and if you’re on the East Coast, an earthquake, a hurricane and torrential flooding!), we’ve survived summer TV. Of course, we’re ready for some new shows (and the networks are offering us over 30 of them), but we’re also on the edges of our sofas waiting for the shows we already love to come back.

To celebrate, and get our storylines straight, here’s a little refresher on where some of the big shows left us hanging — and what we can look forward to next.

Premieres: Thursday, Nov. 3, 9/8c, Fox Record Now

Where We Left Off: Brennan is pregnant with a Baby Booth!

What’s to Come: A shortened season to accommodate leading lady Emily Deschanel’s real-life pregnancy; the introduction of a new villain – and the addition of a new squintern (played by “Gossip Girl’s” Luke Kleintank), to replace lost team member Vincent Nigel-Murray, who was killed by a sniper in the season finale.

Premiered: Monday, Sept. 19, 10/9c, ABC Record Now

Where We Left Off: Beckett got shot by a sniper! … And just as she loses consciousness, Castle confesses his undying love for her!

What’s to Come: We don’t want to spoil anything, but I think it’s safe to say the tale of Rick Castle and Kate Beckett is far from over. You don’t have to be a psychic to know that Beckett’s chances of surviving the shooting are pretty darn good.

P.S. This season also welcomes new cast member Penny Johnson Jerald (“24”) as the new police captain, who isn’t exactly fond of Castle.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
Premiered: Wednesday, Sept. 21, 10/9c, CBS [*Note: New Night] Record Now

Where We Left Off: Serial killer Nate Haskell was taken out by Langston, who’s out of the show himself (Laurence Fishburne opted not to renew his contract).

What’s to Come: The introduction of new team supervisor – Ted Danson’s D.B. Russell, who adds a mellower dynamic to the team and lightens up the place. Even if Catherine Willow isn’t too happy that his joining the CSIs means she’s demoted.

Fall TV 2011: Super Schedule

Desperate Housewives
Premiered: Sunday, Sept. 25, 9/8c, ABC Record Now

Where We Left Off: Tom and Lynette split up, Susan and Mike moved back to Wisteria Lane, Paul Young is in jail and Bree started bed-hopping with a cop … just in time for her and the other ladies of the lane to become accomplices in covering up a dead body. Because don’t forget: Carlos accidentally killed Gaby’s evil stepfather!

What’s to Come: ‘Kiss Them Goodbye’ – the new tagline of this final season, which plans to get back to the show’s (deliciously wicked) roots. Plenty of familiar faces will be heading back to the hood this year for the farewell, but first up will be Susan’s daughter Julie, Lynette’s sister (Sarah Paulson) and MIA housewife Katherine Mayfair, as well as a new male neighbor (played “V’s” Charles Mesure) and love interest for Renee.

“Desperate Housewives” Sneak Peek: “Bury the body, bury the secret. Forever.”

Premiered: Wednesday, Sept. 21, 8/7c, Fox Record Now
Where We Left Off: New Directions’ quest to win Nationals is foiled again, as the Gleeks lost the Holy Grail of vocal competitions.

What’s to Come: A few changes to the high school year book as Sam (Chord Overstreet) is out of the picture, and three cast members will graduate this year. Then we have Sue Sylvester running for Congress (on an anti-arts platform, no doubt) and the resurrection of Finchel.

P.S. “Season 3 feels like going back to basics, it will focus on core characters, rather then the tribute episodes,” says Cory Monteith (Finn).

Don’t Forget to Set Up Your DVRs!!!

The Good Wife
Premiered: Sunday. Sept. 25, 9/8c, CBS [*Note: New Night] Record Now

Where We Left Off: Kalinda slept with Peter! Alicia has love in an elevator with Will!

What’s to Come: A sexier, riskier season (if the promotional posters are any indication) with Alicia in charge of her life. And with Eli Gold a new addition at Lockhart/Gardner, you can expect some trouble too.

Grey’s Anatomy
Premiered: Thursday, Sept. 22, 9/8c, ABC Record Now
Where We Left Off: Meredith gets fired! Cristina’s pregnant!

What’s to Come: A New Chief of Surgery for one thing – hello Dr. Owen Hunt, goodbye Dr. Webber; and a new Chief resident – Dr. April Kepner – for another.
Oh, and you can be sure Meredith’s tampering with the Alzheimer’s trial will have consequences not just at work but also with her relationship with Derek … and their newly adopted baby Zola.

Oh, Meredith…What Have You Done???

Hawaii Five-0
Premiered: Monday, Sept. 19, 10/9c, CBS Record Now

Where We Left Off: McGarrett is framed for the murder of the governor (Jean Smart), who, it turns out, was in cahoots with the island’s main nemesis, arms dealer Wo Fat. And Kono (Grace Park) is arrested for stealing a cool $10 mil from evidence to save Chin Ho (Daniel Dae Kim).

What’s to Come: New cast members Terry O’Quinn (“Lost”) as Commander Joe, a former SEAL and new mentor to McGarrett who knows a thing or two about the murders of McGarrett’s folks; and Tom Sizemore as an Internal Affairs investigator who gives Kono a hard time.

Premieres: Monday, Oct. 3, 9/8c, Fox Record Now

Where We Left Off: A jealous House crashes his car into Cuddy’s house! Then flees the scene (and the country!). Lisa Edelstein, who played Cuddy, quits the show! (She decided not to renew her contract.)

What’s to Come: Picking up a year later, House is in prison! And Urkel is there too. Back at the hospital, with both House and Cuddy MIA, one of doctor grumpy’s underlings is in charge.

P.S. Look for new blood on the team with the additions of Odette Annable and Charlene Yi to the cast.

Law & Order: SVU
Premiered: Wednesday, Sept. 21, 10/9c, NBC Record Now

Where We Left Off: Christopher Meloni left the show after 12 seasons!

What’s to Come: Det. Elliott Stabler may be gone, but his presence “looms large” over at least the first four episodes of the season. Casting damage control includes the addition of two new detectives – Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino – and the return of two former cast members – Stephanie March and Diane Neal.

P.S. For anyone who thinks the show can’t survive without Benson and Stabler, there’s this: “The only way this ships sinks is if I leave” ~ Ice-T, reassuring fans that this thirteenth season will be just as good as any other.

The Office
Premiered: Thursday, Sept. 22, 9/8c, NBC Record Now

Where We Left Off: Michael Scott (Steve Carell) quit his job at “The Office”! Who will be the new boss?!

What’s to Come: James Spader, seen at the end of last season, has joined the cast as Robert California, the new CEO of Duner Mifflin (replacing Kathy Bates’ character). The new Michael Scott has yet to be determined.

P.S. Jim and Pam are expecting baby No. 2!

Two and a Half Men
Premiered: Monday, Sept. 19, 9/8c, CBS Record Now

Where We Left Off: Charlie Sheen self-destructed off-screen and Charlie Harper is now dunzo on-screen! (Plotline-wise, Charlie was contemplating proposing to Rose in Paris.)

What’s to Come: Season 8 heralds the debut of Ashton Kutcher as The Replacement – he’ll be playing Walden Schmidt, an Internet billionaire with a broken heart. And if the rumors are true, series creator Chuck Lorre has (no doubt gleefully) killed off his former leading man.
