Chaz Bono, one of the most controversial contestants on this season of “Dancing with the Stars,” didn’t let the haters get to him Monday night when he delivered an entertaining Cha Cha (and a decent score of 17) … and he’s not gonna let them throw him off his game now.

Post show, Bono said he’ll be avoiding the message boards where a lot of people have written vicious posts about him. “It’s a good idea for everyone to stay away from them. Message boards generally attract people who want to be mean-spirited,” he told reporters after Monday’s show.

“DWTS” Season Premiere: How’d They Do?

Here’s what else Chaz had to say…

How did that feel?
Chaz: I feel great. I was feeling pretty good when I was doing it. I was trying to focus on the dance, do a good job, and have fun and I think I did just that. This has been such a good experience. When I started I was like no matter what I’m going to try to enjoy every minute. Even with the nerves and everything, I just told myself to enjoy the moment.

How was it being judged up there?
Chaz: It’s all kind of a blur. I appreciated they said nice things and they seemed to appreciate my energy and performance and that’s what I tried to bring. That was cool.

You mentioned your weight out there; do you have a weight-loss goal?
Chaz: It’s a really great byproduct of doing this show. I just want to have the best time I can and stay on as long as I can and entertain. If I can lose weight, which I have been, by doing it, that’s awesome.

How is your knee?
Chaz: It’s feeling better right now. I just need to ice it and it should heal fast. Nothing is really wrong with it. It’s like there’s an assault on your body and your body has to catch up to it, even if you work out, which I did beforehand, nothing prepares you for three, four hours of dancing. But everybody says eventually your body gets used to it, so that’s what I’m waiting for.

What are your thoughts going into the first elimination? Is the LBGT strong enough to vote you through over the haters trying to vote someone else through?
Chaz: I hope so. I think my fans will vote. All I can do is do my best and hope the fans take me the rest of the way.

Your mom Cher wasn’t here today, might she come next week if you make it through
Chaz: I have no idea.
